Dreams from the LORD: An Observation   2 comments

.

From 2003 through 2010, I wrote in a journal about the dreams that the Lord had given me and what the Lord was teaching me at the time; I would write about my hitchhiking travels and I would also write some commentary on Scriptures that I had read.  The journal was called Dreams from the LORD.  The journal was in two volumes:  Dreams from the LORD 2003-2006 (272 pages) and Dreams from the LORD 2007-2010 (225 pages).

I was looking at the stats for my High Plains Drifter blog earlier today and I noticed that Dreams from the LORD 2007-2010 had 350 pageviews, Dreams from the LORD 2003-2006 (Part I) had 211 pageviews and Dreams from the LORD 2003-2006 (Part II) had 121 pageviews.  The interesting thing about this is that I have only sold less than 100 copies of my book High Plains Drifter:  A Hitchhiking Journey Across America—it was published in December 2008.

So what does this mean?  Looks like Dreams from the LORD 2007-2010 is my bestseller.  I believe High Plains Drifter:  A Hitchhiking Journey Across America is too expensive (the average price is $19.95); I wish it was being sold for under 10 bucks.  Dreams from the LORD is free to read.  I am hoping that some people are growing stronger in their Christian faith by reading my journal.

“What has been will be again, what has been done will be done again; there is nothing new under the sun.” (Ecclesiastes 1:9 NIV)

Modern-day liberals – or “progressives” as they more discreetly prefer – labor under an awkward misconception; namely, that there is anything remotely “progressive” about the fundamental canons of their blind, secular-humanist faith. In fact, today’s liberalism is largely a sanitized retread of an antiquated mythology – one that significantly predates the only truly progressive movement: biblical Christianity.

While visiting the Rivermont Evangelical Presbyterian Church in Lynchburg, Va., a few weeks back, I heard a troubling, albeit thought-provoking, sermon. Pastor John Maybray addressed the ancient Canaanite practice of Baal worship and, though he didn’t reveal it by name, connected the dots to its present-day progeny: liberalism. Baal, the half-bull, half-man god of fertility, was the focal point of pagan idolatry in Semitic Israel until God revealed His monotheistic nature to Judaism’s forebears.

In his sermon, Pastor Maybray illustrated that, although they’ve now assumed a more contemporary flair, the fundamentals of Baal worship remain alive and well today. The principal pillars of Baalism were child sacrifice, sexual immorality (both heterosexual and homosexual) and pantheism (reverence of creation over the Creator).

Ritualistic Baal worship, in sum, looked a little like this: Adults would gather around the altar of Baal. Infants would then be burned alive as a sacrificial offering to the deity. Amid horrific screams and the stench of charred human flesh, congregants – men and women alike – would engage in bisexual orgies. The ritual of convenience was intended to produce economic prosperity by prompting Baal to bring rain for the fertility of “mother earth.”

The natural consequences of such behavior – pregnancy and childbirth – and the associated financial burdens of “unplanned parenthood” were easily offset. One could either choose to engage in homosexual conduct or – with child sacrifice available on demand – could simply take part in another fertility ceremony to “terminate” the unwanted child.

Modern liberalism deviates little from its ancient predecessor. While its macabre rituals have been sanitized with flowery and euphemistic terms of art, its core tenets and practices remain eerily similar. The worship of “fertility” has been replaced with worship of “reproductive freedom” or “choice.” Child sacrifice via burnt offering has been updated, ever so slightly, to become child sacrifice by way of abortion. The ritualistic promotion, practice and celebration of both heterosexual and homosexual immorality and promiscuity have been carefully whitewashed – yet wholeheartedly embraced – by the cults of radical feminism, militant “gay rights” and “comprehensive sex education.” And, the pantheistic worship of “mother earth” has been substituted – in name only – for radical environmentalism.

But it’s not just self-styled “progressives” or secular humanists who have adopted the fundamental pillars of Baalism. In these postmodern times, we’ve also been graced, regrettably, by the advent of counter-biblical “emergent Christianity” or “quasi-Christianity,” as I prefer to call it.

This is merely liberalism all dolled up and gratuitously stamped “Christian.” It’s a way for left-wing ideologues to have their “religion” cake and eat it too. Under the guise of “social justice,” its adherents often support – or at least rationalize – the same pro-homosexual, pro-abortion and radical environmental policies pushed by the modern-day Baal worshiper.

Though the “Christian left” represent what is arguably a negligible minority within larger Christianity, the liberal media have, nonetheless, embraced their cause and seized upon their popularity among elites as evidence that the so-called “Christian right” (read: biblical Christianity) is losing influence – that Christianity is, somehow, “catching up with the times.”

Because emergent Christianity fails the authenticity test whenever subjected to even the most perfunctory biblical scrutiny, I suspect it will eventually go – for the most part – the way of the pet rock or the Macarena. But this does not absolve leaders within the evangelical community from a duty to call leaders of this counter-biblical revolution on their heresy. It’s not a matter of right versus left; it’s a matter of right versus wrong – of biblical versus non-biblical.

Nonetheless, the aforementioned pillars of postmodern Baalism – abortion, sexual relativism and radical environmentalism – will almost certainly make rapid headway over the next four to eight years, with or without help from the Christian left. The gods of liberalism have a new high priest in Barack Obama, and enjoy many devout followers in the Democratic-controlled Congress, liberal media and halls of academia.

Both Obama’s social agenda and that of the 111th Congress are rife with unfettered pro-abortion, freedom-chilling, pro-homosexual and power-grabbing environmentalist objectives. The same kind of “hope, action and change,” I suppose, that was swallowed up by the Baalist Canaanites of old.

So, today’s liberalism is really just a very old book with a shiny new cover. A philosophy rooted in ancient pagan traditions, of which there is naught to be proud.

There’s “nothing new under the sun,” indeed.

Stand Up [Letter to the Editor]

“In the 11 years I’ve lived in Jackson, I’ve never seen this community shaken up so much as when the protesters from Kansas and Operation Save America showed up. I heard a month before that a radical anti-abortion group was planning on coming to protest. I didn’t think that was a good idea, because it seemed too controversial.

“I completely forgot about it until the Wednesday morning they arrived on Broadway to deliver their ‘shock and awe campaign.’ When I saw the graphic pictures of the aborted baby, I was shocked and deeply offended. I wasn’t offended that OSA showed the pictures in public, but I was offended that this is happening in our community on Saturday mornings.

“For years, I’ve driven past Emerg-A-Care, admiring the airplane propellers over the entrance without thinking about what takes place inside. I’ve since talked with several churchgoers about this. They said they agreed with OSA’s pro-life stance but didn’t agree with the delivery of the group’s message, because it wasn’t a loving-enough approach.

“The Bible says an open rebuke is better than hidden love. Isaiah 58: 1 says, ‘Show my people their sins.’ Abortion is horrific, and showing graphic pictures humanizes it.

“A major turning point in the civil rights battle was the murder and open-casket funeral of 14-year-old Emmett Till. Tens of thousands of people filed past Emmett’s body to see the horrors of segregation. As the brutal photos circulated around the country and television coverage of police violence against peaceful protesters in Birmingham made its way into America’s living rooms, we decided we weren’t going to tolerate it anymore.

“OSA’s protesting strategy has led to hundreds of abortion clinics being shut down around the country. They save thousands of unborn children’s lives, each year. In Wichita Kan., the hometown of many of the protesters, all three abortion clinics have been shut down. The graphic pictures are effective in changing minds. My family and I stood for several hours with the protesters, and, let me tell you, it was uncomfortable. I haven’t been flipped off or threatened like that before, but standing up for those who don’t have a voice is worth it.

“To the Christians and churchgoers in this community, don’t be afraid to stand up for what you know is right, even if it puts you in an uncomfortable spot among your peers.”

“Jackson Hole Landslide”
By Jeremy Aughenbaugh
28 April 2014

Lately, there have been some very interesting events unfolding in Jackson, Wyoming. As some
of you may know, there has been a slow and steady landslide creeping down a butte in downtown Jackson
along its busiest street for several weeks. As there is shifting in the ground that results in a landslide, I
also believe there has been a spiritual shifting over the past several years that continues to leave this small
resort community forever changed.

Before 2011, the town Jackson had been harboring Wyoming’s only abortionist with little to no
objection from the community. Local pastors would occasionally visit Dr. Brent Blue to encourage him
to stop performing abortions but to no avail. There were the annual pro-life banquets and candlelight
vigils in the town square. For the most part, those efforts went unnoticed. Pro-life ministry in Jackson,
Wyoming was forever changed with the arrival of Operation Save America (OSA) in May, 2011. Jackson
had never before had been confronted with the sin of abortion in such a public and powerful way. This
message from gentle Christians laying their lives and reputations down to rescue their unborn neighbors
was soundly rejected not only by the majority of Jackson’s citizens and political leaders, but also by the
church. I noticed things beginning to shift soon after.

Not long after OSA’s 2011 visit, an electrical transformer spontaneously combusted near the
Teton Science School, sending fire racing up a butte just outside town limits. It burned for several hours
before firefighters were able to extinguish it. In May 2012, OSA and Missionaries to the Preborn came to
plead with the town of Jackson to end the sin of abortion. Again, the message was rejected with even
more intensity. Several months later, a major wild fire broke out south of town, this time threatening the
town itself. It was caused by a resident burning trash in a backyard barrel before darting up the
mountainside in a flash.

The smoke appeared so thick that it looked like a mushroom cloud. The air quality in and around
Jackson became poor due to the smoke. For some residents, this caused respiratory issues. Residents in
the east side of Jackson were put on high alert for an evacuation notice if the fire came any closer to town.
Air tankers, helicopters and over 600 firefighters were brought in to subdue the blaze. The fire would go
on to burn nearly five square miles of national forest around Jackson and cost nine million dollars to fight.
Though it’s not uncommon for fires to occur in this area, a fire of this magnitude threatening the town of
Jackson like this one did is truly historic.

There is now a landslide in the town of Jackson adjacent to Powderhorn Plaza, where Abortionist
& family practitioner Dr. Brent Blue currently operates. The slide began rapidly moving at the beginning
of April, splitting a house at the top of the hill in two making it national news. This has resulted in an
entire neighborhood being evacuated leaving residents displaced. Businesses near the slide have been
closed, and there has been the threat of underground water pipes bursting that would rapidly flood the
area and leave about a third of the town without water. $750,000.00 has been allocated towards the slide
by local officials, straining the town’s budget. The Jackson Town Manager said the budget will be
affected by the slide for the next two fiscal years. Though the slide has slowed, it is still moving. No one
yet knows when or where it will stop. The Governor of Wyoming is planning on inspecting the damage
for himself. Thankfully, no one has been hurt.

The cliff itself has been moving slowly for years due to the increased development of the area.
Jackson residents have been trying to find the culprits responsible for triggering the recent slide. Some
think it’s the businesses or developers that dug into the hill side, some believe it’s the planning engineers,
and some have shifted the blame to town and county officials who have issued permits for development.
While earth movement and urban development are the usual suspects here, there is an additional factor
that should be considered.

I believe the timing of the hillside breaking apart is significant just as with the timing of the two
Jackson area fires mentioned earlier. For the first eleven years that I lived here, these things just didn’t
happen in Jackson. Now, it seems disasters like these are becoming more common place. We live in a
cause and effect world; not only physically but spiritually. The root of these disasters can be traced to
man-made causes but they have all occurred after the rejection of repeated public pleas from Christians to
end the practice of child murder in the name of reproductive choice in Jackson. Could this be a coincidence?
Is God trying to get our attention? The bible says in Leviticus 18:21 “And thou shalt not let
any of thy seed pass through to the fire of Molech, neither shalt thou profane the name of thy God: I am
the Lord.” It continues in verses 24-25 saying, “Defile not you yourselves in any of these things: for
which in all these the nations are defiled which I cast out before you. And the land is defiled: therefore I
do visit the iniquity thereof upon it, and the land itself vomiteth out her inhabitants.” There is a direct
connection in Leviticus chapter 18 between the defilement of the land and the abomination of child
sacrifice. We have allowed the killing of unborn children in this community for decades. The landslide
we’re now seeing is literally pushing people out from across the street where the abortionist’s office is
located. I believe we are more vulnerable now than ever before.

As a community, we all share responsibility for this injustice, including me. I knew abortion was
taking place in my community for over ten years without making much of a peep. By my silence, I had
been an accessory to this injustice. Most of us, if not all of us, know that abortion is taking place right
under our noses. None of us can plead ignorance. We will all have to give an account for what we have
or haven’t tolerated within our community. Though I believe we are currently on a collision course with
God’s judgment, there’s still hope. 2 Chronicles 7:14 states, “If my people, which are called by my name,
shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then I will hear
from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.” This is a wonderful promise but it has
conditions; we must first repent. Without repentance we cannot be healed. It is my hope and prayer that
we repent and turn from the sin of abortion sooner than later. Our future depends on it.

King Ahab, King Jehoiakim and Barack Obama   10 comments

Jezebel, Ahab and Elijah

.
II Kings 24: 1-4:  “In his days Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon came up, and Jehoiakim became his servant three years: then he turned and rebelled against him.  And the LORD sent against him bands of the Chaldees, and bands of the Syrians, and bands of the Moabites, and bands of the children of Ammon, and sent them against Judah to destroy it, according to the word of the LORD, which he spake by his servants the prophets.  Surely at the commandment of the LORD came this upon Judah, to remove them out of his sight, for the sins of Manasseh, according to all that he did;  And also for the innocent blood that he shed: for he filled Jerusalem with innocent blood; which the LORD would not pardon.”
.

Because of the sins of the people of the United States, the United States has been overtaken by the spirit of Babylon.  Babylon, in the New Testament sense, is not a physical city, but a spiritual kingdom–the Kingdom of Satan.

Because of the sins of the people of the United States–abortion, homosexuality, idolatry (just to name a few)–the Lord has put Barack Obama in the White House.  Barack Obama is operating under a Satanic anointing, not unlike Adolf Hitler.

You can also think of Barack Obama as another King Ahab, during the time of Elijah the Prophet (Hillary Clinton is another Jezebel), or as King Jehoiakim.  King Jehoiakim served Nebuchadnezzar, King of Babylon; Barack Obama serves Satan, the king of spiritual Babylon.

I Kings 17: 1:   “And Elijah the Tishbite, who was of the inhabitants of Gilead, said unto Ahab, As the LORD God of Israel liveth, before whom I stand, there shall not be dew nor rain these years, but according to my word.”

The drought in the United States in 2012 is because there is so much sin in this country and because there is no Godly covering in the White House.

I Kings 21: 20-26:  “And Ahab said to Elijah, Hast thou found me, O mine enemy? And he answered, I have found thee: because thou hast sold thyself to work evil in the sight of the LORD.  Behold, I will bring evil upon thee, and will take away thy posterity, and will cut off from Ahab him that pisseth against the wall, and him that is shut up and left in Israel,  And will make thine house like the house of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, and like the house of Baasha the son of Ahijah, for the provocation wherewith thou hast provoked me to anger, and made Israel to sin.  And of Jezebel also spake the LORD, saying, The dogs shall eat Jezebel by the wall of Jezreel.  Him that dieth of Ahab in the city the dogs shall eat; and him that dieth in the field shall the fowls of the air eat.  But there was none like unto Ahab, which did sell himself to work wickedness in the sight of the LORD, whom Jezebel his wife stirred up.  And he did very abominably in following idols, according to all things as did the Amorites, whom the LORD cast out before the children of Israel.”

The Fire of the Lord   1 comment

Dreams from the LORD 2011

Numbers 11: 1-3: “And when the people complained, it displeased the LORD: and the LORD heard it; and his anger was kindled; and the fire of the LORD burnt among them, and consumed them that were in the uttermost parts of the camp. And the people cried unto Moses; and when Moses prayed unto the LORD, the fire was quenched. And he called the name of the place Taberah: because the fire of the LORD burnt among them.”

Leviticus 10: 1-2: “And Nadab and Abihu, the sons of Aaron, took either of them his censer, and put fire therein, and put incense thereon, and offered strange fire before the LORD, which he commanded them not. And there went out fire from the LORD, and devoured them, and they died before the LORD.”

I Kings 18: 38-40: “Then the fire of the LORD fell, and consumed the burnt sacrifice, and the wood, and the stones, and the dust, and licked up the water that was in the trench. And when all the people saw it, they fell on their faces: and they said, The LORD, he is the God; the LORD, he is the God. And Elijah said unto them, Take the prophets of Baal; let not one of them escape. And they took them: and Elijah brought them down to the brook Kishon, and slew them there.”

II Kings 1: 10: “And Elijah answered and said to the captain of fifty, If I be a man of God, then let fire come down from heaven, and consume thee and thy fifty. And there came down fire from heaven, and consumed him and his fifty.”

Job 36:32:  “He covers his hands with the lightning and commands it to strike the mark.”

Isaiah 30: 27-33: “Behold, the name of the LORD cometh from far, burning with his anger, and the burden thereof is heavy: his lips are full of indignation, and his tongue as a devouring fire: And his breath, as an overflowing stream, shall reach to the midst of the neck, to sift the nations with the sieve of vanity: and there shall be a bridle in the jaws of the people, causing them to err. Ye shall have a song, as in the night when a holy solemnity is kept; and gladness of heart, as when one goeth with a pipe to come into the mountain of the LORD, to the mighty One of Israel. And the LORD shall cause his glorious voice to be heard, and shall shew the lighting down of his arm, with the indignation of his anger, and with the flame of a devouring fire, with scattering, and tempest, and hailstones. For through the voice of the LORD shall the Assyrian be beaten down, which smote with a rod. And in every place where the grounded staff shall pass, which the LORD shall lay upon him, it shall be with tabrets and harps: and in battles of shaking will he fight with it. For Tophet is ordained of old; yea, for the king it is prepared; he hath made it deep and large: the pile thereof is fire and much wood; the breath of the LORD, like a stream of brimstone, doth kindle it.”

Amos 1:4:  “So I will send a fire upon the house of Hazael, and it shall devour the strongholds of Ben-hadad.”

Amos 1:7:  “So I will send a fire upon the wall of Gaza, and it shall devour her strongholds.”

Matthew 3: 11-12: “I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance: but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire: Whose fan is in his hand, and he will throughly purge his floor, and gather his wheat into the garner; but he will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire.”

Luke 12: 49: “I am come to send fire on the earth; and what will I if it be already kindled?”

I Corinthians 3: 13: “Every man’s work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man’s work of what sort it is.”

Hebrews 12: 29: “For our God is a consuming fire.”

II Peter 3: 10-12: “But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up. Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness, Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat?”

Revelation 1: 14: “His head and his hairs were white like wool, as white as snow; and his eyes were as a flame of fire.”

Two Emails (Intercession)   4 comments

I recently sent two emails to a Christian lady that I know. In these emails, I tried to explain to her my work of intercessory prayer. There are different levels of intercession just like there are different levels of Christian maturity or spirituality.

When Samson took the jawbone of an ass and killed one thousand Philistines, this was a physical foreshadowing of the spiritual warfare that intercessors do in the New Testament—those who are surrendered to Christ. I love the word “surrender”; Watchman Nee once wrote that the word “surrender” is a better and more powerful word than “submit”. I would like to think that if a Christian is truly surrendered to Christ, that he is truly dissolved into Christ.

19 January 2011

I just read your comment and you asked about intercession. It is probably providential that you asked because, earlier today, I was talking with a Christian lady and I tried to explain to her my intercessory work.

There are different levels of intercession. You can pray in English and ask the Lord for wisdom or strength. You can pray in tongues. Back in 1992 the Lord told me not to pray in English; He told me to obey Him and let the Holy Ghost/Presence of God flow through me and satanic strongholds would be taken out [the phrase “and satanic strongholds would be taken out” was an understanding that came later in my life]. Most people don’t know what I mean by intercession (or my work of intercession). It is a lifestyle of obedience to the Lord. Since I am obeying Him (taking up my cross and following Him—dying to self), He will glorify my body and this is what destroys satanic strongholds. You can also call it rapture.

There is no such thing as a bodily or physical rapture. Rapture is spiritual—you are rapt up into the Presence of God. It can be very powerful. One time I was burning up in the Holy Ghost (glorification/rapture)—and when this happens, it feels like your eyes are going to burn right out of their sockets, it is so intense. Sometimes it is hard to see. Sometimes people see the light coming out of your eyes and it scares the tar out of them. Anyway, one time I was burning up in the Holy Ghost and the next day Saddam Hussein was captured. This other time I was burning up in the Holy Ghost and Al Zaquari [spelling incorrect; it should be Abu Musab al-Zarqawi] was killed the next day.

The Lord uses my intercession to destroy satanic (Muslim or anything satanic) strongholds–-it is very strategic and it is very hard for me to explain it to people.

There is a post on my blog called “Intercession”. You may want to read it sometime.

Right now I am in Dubois, Wyoming; I should be heading to Jackson tomorrow.

Sincerely, Tim

_____

You don’t have to pray in tongues to be in tune with the Holy Ghost. You definitely are sensitive to the Holy Ghost because it is all over your blog. I have met tongue talkers who were spiritually dead.

My intercession is not using words—English or tongues. The Lord glorifies my body and this is what removes the satanic stronghold. I do pray in English or tongues once in a while, but that is a different kind of intercession.

About Saddam Hussein: No, I did not consciously pray for his capture. The Presence of God was very strong on me for a day or two before his capture and I know that the two were linked. In my intercession, I do not consciously pray or think of anything: it is the power of God flowing through me because I have willingly laid my life down (died to self) and let the Lord run my life. Too many Christians do their own thing and call it the will of God and they wonder why the Lord doesn’t do anything powerful in their lives.

Yes, I am still hitchhiking. I might be in one place for one to three nights and then I hit the road. I am always going, always walking and hitchhiking. I would rather not, but this is God’s will for my life. Mount Moriah revisited.

Lori and her dad in Tiananmen Square, 1991

Here is a post by Lori Rodeheaver from the blog Everyday Encounters with the Creator:

In grade school, if you had looked up the term, “reject” in the dictionary, you’d likely have found my picture.  My dad was kind of hippie-like and my mom, well, my mom was just different I guess.  So, I was kind of a loner.  And I was quite happy being me until about the fifth grade…when the other kids starting taking notice of my funny clothes and lack of friends at recess.  Up until then, being me didn’t really bother me.  I liked being alone in Loriland, reading books and navigating monkey-bars by myself.  I liked my funny clothes.  Come to think of it, I still do.

Anyway, I’m glad I had a chance to grow into who I was instead of who my peers told me to be.  Because when you don’t have any friends, it’s much easier not to put too much stake in their ideas.  The flip-side is that you kind of learn not to put too much stake in anyone else’s ideas.  Our strengths are our weaknesses I guess.

Well, as I read 1 Samuel 14, I found a couple rejects of my own.  Only these guys weren’t rejected by their peers.  They were rejected by their God.  Ironically, when we strive to not be rejected by man, we often put ourselves in a place where we will both reject, and, be rejected by, God.  Let’s investigate this passage…

One day Jonathan the son of Saul said to the young man who carried his armor, “Come, let us go over to the Philistine garrison on the other side.” But he did not tell his father.Saul was staying in the outskirts of Gibeah in the pomegranate cave at Migron. The people who were with him were about six hundred men, including Ahijah the son of Ahitub, Ichabod’s brother, son of Phinehas, son of Eli, the priest of the Lord in Shiloh, wearing an ephod. And the people did not know that Jonathan had gone. Within the passes, by which Jonathan sought to go over to the Philistine garrison, there was a rocky crag on the one side and a rocky crag on the other side. The name of the one was Bozez, and the name of the other Seneh. The one crag rose on the north in front of Michmash, and the other on the south in front of Geba. ~1 Samuel 14:1-5

In just the short time since becoming king, Saul had already made some pretty severe mistakes.  So severe, in fact, that God had already rejected him as king.

He had sent home troops he needed for battle out of pride and self-sufficiency.  After he attacked his fiercest enemy, he stood around trumpet-blowing and trying to gather them back.  He lacked courage and leadership when the army he did have became fearful and started deserting.  He usurped both God and the prophet Samuel’s authority by being impatient and offering sacrifices he wasn’t fit to offer.  Saul was chock-full of pride and self-reliance.

For this reason, God had already rejected Saul as his king.  It seems that others had done the same.  Now, of the 3,000 soldiers he had chosen, only 600 remained.  Worse yet, even his own son, Jonathan, exhibits great distrust and lack of confidence in his leadership.  1 Samuel 14 gives us some insight as to when it is appropriate to stop following a foolish leader.

One day Jonathan the son of Saul said to the young man who carried his armor, “Come, let us go over to the Philistine garrison on the other side.” But he did not tell his father. ~1 Samuel 14:1

Why would Jonathan embark upon a risky and dangerous military expedition without informing his father…who just so happened to be his commander-in-chief?  Was he being prideful and self-reliant like his father?  Was this another case of usurping of proper authority?  Or was it something else?

Likely, it was because God was Jonathan’s commander-in-chief.  Jonathan had seen and experienced first-hand quite enough of his father’s foolishness.  Jonathan was brave and he trusted in God’s promises, calling the enemies “uncircumcised.” (v6)  He knew his advantage was in God, not man.  Therefore, he thought it wise not to consult his man-fearing father before the battle.  And he was right.

Go figure.  Daddy is foolish for usurping authority and little Jonny is wise when he does the same thing…because it isn’t the same thing.  The circumstances are vastly different.  It’s the difference between homicidal killing and soldier combat killing.  This kind of contrast proves how extremely important discernment is when following God.

Meanwhile, we find his father, King Saul, spoken of as having Ahijah among him, who was wearing an ephod.

Ahijah was a descendant of Eli.  Eli’s house had been rejected by God because of sin and disobedience, remember?  Yet Saul has one of Eli’s descendants, who is dressed in priestly garments, hanging around to help him determine the Lord’s will.  That’s what ephod’s were used for, after all.

All this, after he had disregarded the instructions of both God and his true prophet, Samuel.  Not to mention the fact that the true prophet had also been wholly rejected by the people following him.

Oh!  How the ungodly love to gather false prophets and smooth talkers around their tables and trust in external shows of religion!  They reject the hard, plain words of the true ministers of God and listen only to those who tickle their ears with and easy and cost-less message!

So it’s no surprise to find Saul and Ahijah hanging out together, is it?  The rejected king and the rejected priest have so deceived themselves in pride and self-sufficiency that they continue to honor one another instead of God and His Word.

Jonathan did the right thing by trusting in God rather than his man-fearing father…even though his man-fearing father was his earthly authority.  When the rubber meets the road and we have to make a decision between obeying our earthly authorities vs. obeying Our Heavenly Authority, we had better make certain we choose the latter.  True blessing and victory cannot come from the former if they are in opposition to the Lord’s will.

Next, we’ll see how God blesses Jonathan for his courage and wisdom.  For now, let’s consider how we might honor God by rejecting leaders who have rejected him and His Word.  If God has rejected someone as a leader, let’s recognize that we would do well to stop following them.  Let’s cease to worry about being rejected by men and focus only upon pleasing God.

It’s really not bad here in Loriland, anyway.  Sometimes lonely, but always an adventure.

Desperate for God   2 comments

Dreams from the LORD 2003-2006

I John 2: 15-17: “Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.”
.
“For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life.” Let us look at the origins of sin in the earth and go back to Genesis 3: 6: “And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant (Hebrew: “a desire”) to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her: and he did eat.”
.

“The lust of the flesh”: “the tree was good for food.” “The lust of the eyes”: “it was pleasant to the eyes.” “The pride of life”: “a tree to be desired to make one wise.” Look at the word “desire”: it is a snare unto itself. Just because you are a Christian and you desire something doesn’t mean that it is God’s will that you have it. “But I have my needs!” Maybe your needs and your desires need to be put to death. Maybe the Lord wants you to be content with Him and Him alone before He deems it necessary to give you anything else. Before I got saved, my desire in life was to be a writer. I wrote a novella at the age of twenty-one, but it never got published. I wrote several short stories and some poetry, but was never published. I got saved at the age of twenty-two. At the age of twenty-five, I burned all of my manuscripts–somewhere between ten to fifteen legal pads and notebooks–because I wanted God and God alone (seek the kingdom of Heaven first). When I was twenty-eight, the Lord told me to go back to college. At Iowa State University, I majored in English Literature with a supporting field in Journalism and Mass Communications–I wrote a lot of papers and had a lot of essay tests. During college and just after college, I had a short story and two poems published (because it was God’s will) by Ethos magazine. When I was thirty-nine, the Lord told me to write a book about hitchhiking. Now, at the age of forty-five, I am working on a journal. I may be writing this journal for the rest of my life. I don’t see how it will ever be published, but there may be a few Christians out there who might appreciate it. If I get married and have children, then hopefully my children and descendents might get something out of it. If my journal glorifies God, then that is all that matters: the Lord will multiply my work and it will bear much fruit. The key thing is this: I was desperate for God, not my writing. When the Lord could see that I was wholly dedicated to Him and absolutely locked into Him, then He told me to start writing. Don’t get the cart before the horse: put God first. Then the Lord will provide the road and then the horse and then the cart and the destination where the goods need to be transported. Without God there is no road, there is no horse, there is no cart, there are no goods and there is no destination. Without God there is nothing.

My desire is to know God and to know Him more perfectly. The word “know” isn’t having knowledge of God, but to experience God, to abide in God, to have the Presence of God invade and permeate my body, soul and spirit. Without intimacy with God, I can do nothing for my fellow man. I cannot turn the world upside down for Christ.

If a light bulb has no electricity running through it, it cannot give light in a dark place. If a light bulb is broken, it is useless. If a light bulb is not screwed into the socket, it is useless. If a Christian is busy chasing the world and is not abiding in Christ, He is useless. If our light is darkness, then how great is that darkness?

One of my heroes of the Christian faith is John Milton (1608-1674). Why did his life and writings affect so many millions in England, America and the rest of the world? Because his desire was to know God and to know Him more perfectly.

A Ransom for Many   Leave a comment

Jesus washing the feet of His disciples

Dreams from the LORD 2003-2006
11 April 2005

Mark 10: 42-45: “But Jesus called them to him, and saith unto them, ye know that they which are accounted to rule over the Gentiles exercise lordship over them; and their great ones exercise authority upon them. But so shall it not be among you: but whosoever will be great among you, shall be your minister: And whosoever of you will be the chiefest, shall be the servant of all. For even the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.”

If Jesus gave His life as a ransom for many people, shouldn’t we do the same? Time and again I think that walking all over the place with a backpack and hitchhiking and never staying in one place for very long seems so foolish. How long do I have to do this? When can I settle down and have a basic job and have a place to live? If being a ransom for many means that the Lord wants me to travel the highways and the byways and follow Him, then there is nothing I can do about it. I have been bought with a price: salvation is not cheap, grace is not cheap: it was the price of the Son of God when He was flogged half to death and then died on the Cross–with nails pounded through his hands and feet. We don’t have to understand all that the Lord tells us. Yes, the Lord gives me understanding in some things, not all things. If we understood all things, then where would be the humility, the living by faith and revelation? Prideful people don’t need to live by faith–they live by self-reliance, not God-reliance. The humble man has a broken and contrite heart and is seeking God daily: he obeys the Lord even though he does not understand what the outcome will be: he is living by faith and not by sight.

It looks like the Lord wants me to hitchhike west towards Bozeman and then back to Jackson. In my flesh I ask, why does the Lord want me to hitchhike so much through Bozeman and Jackson? I really get sick of it. It is so repetitious. At least I have a healthy hatred for sin and for the world system. Maybe that is God’s ulterior motive: I really do hate the world with a perfect hatred. The love of the world is enmity with the Father.

Grow Deeper in Christ   Leave a comment

Dreams from the LORD 2003-2006
31 March 2005

James 4: 4: “Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? Whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God.”

Whenever I think of the word adulterer or adulteress or adultery, I think of sexual sin. But if a man loves the world, chases after the things of the world, is conformed to the world, he is an adulterer pure and simple. Pure adultery is absolute impurity pure and simple. The world is always bombarding us with lies and images: temptations through the media (visual, audio, print), public education systems or through the mouth of an unbeliever. It is a daily struggle to keep us unspotted from the world, to be unadulterated from the dirt of the world. As long as we have a submitted heart to the Lord, He will protect us. James 4: 7: “Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.”

I have always loved this verse: James 4: 8: “Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you.” There should be a daily yearning for God, a daily abiding in God. I meet people who say, “I was saved thirty years ago” and they are still baby Christians. So you have been a baby Christian for thirty years: how does that glorify God? Someone graduates from the first grade: does that mean he is educated? No. Graduating from the first grade is part of that lifelong process called education. I have met people with college degrees who I thought were semi-illiterate idiots. Just because you have a college degree does not mean that you are educated; it probably means that you are indoctrinated with liberal (satanic) ideology.

Being born again is important, but staying at a first grade conversion level of spirituality for thirty or forty or fifty years really does not glorify God. Throw away the milk bottle—draw nigh to God—and begin partaking of the meat of the Word. Christians who are not drawing nigh to God every day are lazy and complacent. We are to grow deeper in Christ: we are not to make a tomb or a whitewashed wall out of salvation. To some people, salvation is another excuse for idolatry or putting God in a box. Get out of the box and get into New Jerusalem.
