This is from A Disciple’s Study blog:
“For it is not mere words that nourish the soul, but God Himself, and unless and until the hearers find God in personal experience they are not the better for having heard the truth.
“The Bible is not an end in itself, but a means to bring men to an intimate and satisfying knowledge of God, that they may enter into Him, that they may delight in His Presence, may taste and know the inner sweetness of the very God Himself in the core and center of their hearts.”
–A.W. Tozer
I tried to explain this many years ago and was claimed a heretic but I am total agreement with Tozer …. Amen
If people spend all their time memorizing Scripture and not seeking the Lord, I would call that Bible Verse Idolatry. Many people miss the forest for the trees or they miss the Lord for the Bible verses.
John 5: 39-40: “Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me. And ye will not come to me, that ye might have life.”
Thanks Tim ….. ironically enough I am unable mentally to memorize scripture my mind goes blank ….God Bless hope you are doing well. Jacqui x
I think that’s really true. Without God, the bible is something two dimensional, just flat words on a page. You need God to make them come alive, to show you what they mean and how to apply them to your life.
When you have Scripture and the power of the Holy Ghost (revelation from the Lord) in your life, you are a very powerful weapon in the Lord’s hands.
