A Ride with a former Green Beret   4 comments

US Army Green Beret

28 November 2015

Yesterday I was walking north of Sugar City, Idaho on U.S. 20 when this pickup pulled over to give me a ride.  The guy’s name was Ted and he looked like he was in is late sixties or early seventies.  He was driving from Utah to Billings, Montana.  I told him that I was heading to Belgrade, Montana.

Ted spent 12 years in the Special Forces (Green Berets).  He did four tours in Vietnam.  Ted was from the Crow Reservation south of Billings.  He said that he was 15/16 Crow and 1/16 French.  I told Ted that I had hitchhiked across the Crow and Northern Cheyenne Reservations a number of times over the years.

Ted told me that, when he saw me, something hit him between the eyes and told him to pick me up.  We had a great talk all the way to Belgrade.

I told Ted that I was involved in intercession and spiritual warfare.  He told me that he had been working on a project on the Crow Reservation for 20 years to help the Crow Nation become more independent of federal welfare programs.  Ted has met with a lot of opposition.  I told him about the power of prayer and we talked much on the things of God.

We stopped at a gas station in Henry’s Lake, Idaho.  Ted bought me some biscuits and gravy and something to drink.  We then walked back to the pickup and he handed me a plate of Thanksgiving Dinner.  He told me that his friends in Utah prepared him a plate of dinner for him to eat on the road.  Ted knew it was for someone else.  As he drove through Utah, he saw this homeless guy (maybe in Salt Lake City) and offered him that plate of food.  The homeless guy told him that he had just eaten some dinner.  So Ted gave me the plate of food; I was very grateful.

Ted told me something interesting.  He said that is great grandfather was a Crow scout for Colonel George Custer.  His great grandfather had fought with Custer at the Battle of Little Big Horn.  His name was Gozerhead.  Ted said that the Sioux and Northern Cheyenne tribes were allied with the Blackfeet during the Indian Wars.  I told Ted that I have always enjoyed reading military history and that I worked for this guy on the Wind River Reservation in Wyoming–he was from the Arapaho tribe.  He told me that he had an uncle who did seven tours in Vietnam.

I love it when the Lord puts someone in your path and you have a lot in common with them.  When this happens, either you will say something that they were supposed to hear or else they will say something that you were supposed to hear.  It may be one word or one sentence and then the Lord engrafts it into your spirit and you grow stronger from it.  Some Christians call this a rhema* word.  You could also call it our Daily Bread.  Jesus is the Word of God and He is the Bread from Heaven.

Ted dropped me off just south of Belgrade and continued on to Billings.  I walked to the McDonald’s and got some tea to drink and sat down and read the Bible till it got dark.  I then walked to this junk pickup on the far side of town and hunkered down for the night.  It got down to minus three degrees Fahrenheit that night.  My two water bottles froze solid, my loaf of bread froze solid, the sandwich that Ted bought for me froze solid, but I did not freeze solid (actually, I stayed nice and warm that night).  It had been a very blessed day on the road.

Dreams from the LORD 2011-2014
1 February 2014

Last night I had a dream where I was with some friends driving down this highway.  We then saw this hitchhiker on the side of the road.  He was dressed in green camo—he looked like he was in the Special Forces.  We picked him up and drove him to this military training camp.

The next scene:  I was sitting at this table wearing green camo; I was at that same military training camp.  It looked like we were in a jungle setting—like Vietnam.  I was there training the Special Forces soldiers.  There was more to the dream, but it is gone from me now.

This dream is confirmation on the work that I do for the Lord:  intercession/spiritual warfare.

II Timothy 2: 4:  “No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this life; that he may please him who hath chosen him to be a soldier.”

A few years ago, I was at a friend’s place and he had a copy of Sun Tzu’s classic The Art of War.  I read half of the book and then the Lord told me to stop reading it.  The Lord showed me that the man who obeys the Lord defeats Sun Tzu every time.

Dreams from the LORD 2011
27 March 2011

Last night I had a dream from the Lord. I was in this city. There was fighting going on between two armies: Army A and Army B. I was with Army A. The fighting took place among these big buildings; it looked like the downtown area of the city.

During the dream, it all reminded me of the Battle of the Bulge in World War II. The American Army was lulled into relaxing too much and then, all of a sudden, the Germans counter-attacked and took many prisoners.

In the dream, there was fighting between the two armies and then, all of a sudden, the soldiers from both sides put down their weapons and embraced each other. They were all smiling and became fast friends. I stood there looking at what was happening, but I knew something was wrong. In my spirit, I knew that Army B had tricked Army A into a ceasefire. It was a false peace (it reminded me of the phrase “peace and safety and then sudden destruction comes upon them”).

Then I saw strange things happen. These big columns (like they have at the Parthenon in Greece) came in on rollers and new buildings were being erected. But I knew this was wrong: these buildings were being built too fast and on shallow ground; they were built without any foundations. It all seemed false and pretentious.

Then I saw this small group of soldiers coming up behind me from Army A. There were probably ten to twenty men dressed in green uniforms and helmets. They were carrying rifles. They looked like Special Forces. They moved very quickly, were very aggressive; they had faces like flint. They paid absolutely no attention to the lukewarm soldiers of Army A and Army B. These guys meant business. In my spirit, I knew that they knew that something was very wrong with all of this false peace between Army A and Army B. These Special Forces guys moved quickly towards the interior of the city and the rest of Army B (the headquarters of Army B?). I followed with them.

What does this dream mean? Army A is the modern Christian church. Army B is the army of Satan. Army A APPEARS to be fighting the devil, but they really aren’t. They have compromised with the devil and have made peace with the devil (have become conformed to the world) (“they had a form of Godliness, but denied the power thereof”).

The Special Forces are the true Christian warriors—and they were much fewer in number than all of Army A (the modern lukewarm church). It would be like comparing Special Forces with the rest of the United States’ conventional army: there are probably 2 million military personnel and there may be several thousand in Special Forces.

In the dream, the Special Forces did not take heed to the false peace between Army A and Army B. They continued to attack Army B and head to the interior of the city and hunt down bad guys.

This dream reminds me of Elijah and the seven thousand who did not bow down to Baal in the days of King Ahab and Queen Jezebel. There were probably around 3 million people living in Israel at the time. It is always a small minority that does the real fighting against Satan.

One more thing: the dream was rather long and many of the details are gone from me now. What is vivid in my mind is my observing the fighting of the Special Forces. They weren’t merely playing church, they were about their Father’s business—they were taking the fight to the enemy; they were taking out satanic strongholds.
